The Annual 3rd Ward Christmas Dinner/Party was held on Saturday, 8 Dec 2012. The event organized by Barbara Beavers and Judi Larson. The planning committee did an excellent job of decorating the cultural hall to make it look and feel like the Christmas festival that it was. Ward members were invited to come dressed as their favorite "Who" from Whoville ("The Grinch who stole Christmas"). The event opened with a special performance starring the evil Mr. Grinch. The skit starred Mr. Grinch who, at first, was portrayed as a grumpy and selfish character giving everyone unappreciated presents such as rakes, grass seed, a tire iron, and several other similar gifts. The mayor of whoville (played by Bishop Tom Obenchain) lamented the idea of putting the Grinch in charge of Christmas. But then a little girl appeared and reminded everyone of the reason for these gifts. They were gifts to be used as tools in serving others and lightening their burdens. Christmas and indeed the entire year should be a time of giving the gift of time and service to our fellow man. We can rake their yard, fix their car, and perform countless other acts of service. Christmas should remind all of us of the spirit of giving.
After the performance, a delicious turkey dinner was served. Everyone enjoyed the evening socializing and even took a few minutes to sing some Christmas carols.
